2019-20 Project Grants

What: Support for Triangle theater projects during the 2019-20 season
Total Grantees: 24
Total Awarded: $37,150

We put out a call for project grant applications in the spring of 2019, for theater events taking place in the Triangle during the 2019-20 season. In July 2019, an independent panel selected 24 theater companies and individual artists to receive grants ranging from $200 to $2,500 – for a total of $37,150 from the Manbites Dog Theater Fund. The grants supported the work of more than 450 individual Triangle theater artists for an estimated total audience of 14,000 across the Triangle counties of Durham, Chatham, Orange, and Wake.

(Note: Over half of the grantee projects had already taken place when the 2019-20 season was cut short in March by the COVID-19 pandemic. When it became clear that the remaining grantees would have to put their works on hold, we extended the original completion deadline to allow them time to determine how or whether to move forward with their projects. Several migrated to online performance, or postponed, and two needed to cancel. All of them did a remarkable job of dealing with the rapidly shifting circumstances and should be saluted.)
