The Five Incarnations of Abel Green

Manbites Dog Theater Company and StreetSigns Center for Literature and Performance have postponed our December 2015 co-production of Howard L. Craft’s Freight: The Five Incarnations of Abel Green due to the professional success of the production’s actor, J. Alphonse Nicholson following its recent run in New York City. Manbites Dog and StreetSigns are eager to present this amazing play and brilliant young actor in Durham, and will be working to reschedule the production during our 2016-17 Season.

In its place, Manbites Dog has scheduled The Tramp’s New World, an adaptation of James Agee’s legendary unproduced screenplay written for Charlie Chaplin, to run December 3-19, 2015. More information here.

J. Alphonse Nicholson’s brilliant performance in the New York run of Freight, directed by Joseph Megel, helped to launch his professional acting career. He recently completed a run of August Wilson’s Seven Guitars directed by Coleman Domingo at Actors Theatre of Louisville, and alongside veteran actors is now in rehearsals for a new Dominique Morisseau play, Sunset Baby, at City Theatre Company in Pittsburgh. Nicholson has previously appeared at Manbites Dog in Howard L. Craft’s Caleb Calypso and the Midnight Marauders, and in Tarell Alvin McCraney’s The Brothers Size – both directed by Joseph Megel, as well as presentations of Craft’s Jade City Chronicles and Lydia Diamond’s Harriet Jacobs.
