Map / Directions and Parking

What kind of audition will it be?
Actors will need to prepare a one-minute monologue, and will be seen in groups of ten.

What shows are you auditioning for? Can I get a copy of the scripts?
For this audition, we will only be seeing prepared one-minute monologues, not reading for specific shows. This is a general audition, to give area actors a chance to be seen by these companies and to give the companies a look at who is out there. If companies wish to read you for specific roles, they will contact you to schedule their own followup auditions.

Who are all these companies?
For information on attending companies, visit their websites, which will be listed here by the beginning of April.

How do I register?
Registration will be online only – no phone or email reservations.
Register for an audition here. All audition slots are filled. See wait list/walk-in info below.

What will happen after I register?
We will confirm your registration with an email indicating which time you have scheduled. (If you do not receive a confirmation, contact us by email.)

When should I arrive for my audition?
Please plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled audition time to sign in and to give yourself some preparation time. Bring a head shot and resume if you have them, along with your completed audition form.

What if I register for a time but have to reschedule?
Please contact us right away by email (not by phone) if you need to change or cancel your audition time. (We suggest checking your schedule carefully BEFORE you register; multiple rescheduling or last minute cancellation does not reflect well on you.)

I can’t be there on that date. Can I schedule another time or submit a video audition?
We are not scheduling alternate audition dates, and we are not accepting video auditions. If you can’t attend, you can mail a resume and head shot (hard-copy only) prior to the audition with the words “Auditions non-attending” on the envelope. We will make your resume and head shot available to the participating companies and directors, who may contact you if they would like to schedule an audition with you. Mail to: Manbites Dog Theater, PO Box 402, Durham NC 27702. Allow at least five days for delivery. NO emailed head shots/resumes will be accepted.

Do I need to audition if I’ve been in recent shows at one or more of these companies?
If you frequently work with a company, there is probably no need for them to see you. However, there may be some companies and directors present who are not familiar with your work.

What should I bring to the audition?
1. A memorized 1-minute monologue – contemporary or not, your choice.
2. One hard copy of your head-shot and resume. (Not required, but recommended.)
3. A printed-out and completed copy of a short audition form (available for download here).

What kind of monologue are you looking for (contemporary, classical, comic, etc.)?
Your choice. Choose something that showcases your strengths as an actor and works as a one-minute monologue.

I don’t have a monologue…my monologues are too long…I don’t know what you’re looking for, etc.
Make a choice and commit to it.

Should I memorize my monologue?
Yes.

Is it okay if my monologue is 15 or 20 seconds longer than a minute?
The moderator, at his discretion, may allow you to go a little over, but will stop you if it is going too long.

Will you have a selection of monologues or scripts at the auditions that I can read from?
No.

Are you looking for a specific race, ethnicity, gender, body type, age range?
No, we want to see as broad a range of people as possible.

Will you audition Equity Actors? How about children?
These auditions are not based on Equity guidelines, and most of these companies do not customarily budget their productions to cast Equity actors; contact individual companies for more information. Availability of children’s roles vary depending on the company and production. You are always welcome to audition as a way to introduce yourself or as a way to get audition experience.

When will you hold callbacks?
For these auditions, we are not scheduling callbacks. Companies at the audition will get in touch with you individually if they wish to see you again for a specific show.

How much do you pay?
We can’t speak for all companies represented at this audition. Most companies manage to pay at least a small stipend for an actor’s contracted work.

Will you see walk-ins who do not have a scheduled audition?
We will see walk-ins as time allows. We will start a waiting list at the theater the day of the auditions starting about 9:30. You must be here in person to sign up for the waiting list. Because of cancellations, walk-ins have a very good chance of being seen.

I have a question not answered above!
